Life is always better with a burger on hand. Here’s where to find the best meat-free and sustainable burgers in Sydney. You can thank us later!
Soul Burger, multiple locations
Top of the list is Australia’s first wholly plant-based burger joint, Soul Burger. Making the switch in 2015 for their customers, our planet and the animals around them, Soul Burger destroyed the myth about “boring vegan food”. Feast on their mushroom and satay tofu burgers, chilli ‘duck’ or BBQ ‘beef’ brisket. The options are endless and equally delicious!
Heard the craze about Flave? Bondi’s newest burger joint is 100% plant-based, sure. But more than anything, it’s mouth-watering, mind-blowing flavour. The menu is inspired by the flavours of the world, as seen in their Japanese Sushi burger, Italian Meatball burger and Southern Fry cauliflower steak burger. However, nothing beats the OG Cheeseburger with grilled smashed BUDS patty, melty cheese, ketchup and veg.
Swallow Coffee Traders, Rockdale
Swallow Coffee Traders is passionate about helping others explore a plant-based diet and creating food that is just as delicious and exciting to enjoy. We can’t go past their No Beef About It Burger that champions level up with plant-based bacon, egg and hash brown. There’s also the Vegan Cheeseburger, where you can double the patty and the cheese.
Pilgrims, Bronte and Cronulla
The food isn’t fancy at Pilgrims but it’s so damn good! These legends are famous for their vego burgers, stacked high and dripping in juicy sauce. The go-to vegan burger is the Millenium with a curry lentil pattie, fried onion, avo, lettuce, beetroot, cucumber, sprouts, tahini dressing and sweet chilli sauce. The epitome of delicious, wholesome food that makes you feel good.
Some have called them “The thinking man’s burger”. Others claim their food is so good it “should be illegal”. However, Suburgia just calls themselves the “Best burgs in the ‘burbs!” Their secret vegan business menu has seven tempting options to satisfy all your burgering needs. We recommend the Tempe with vegan fried chick’n, vegan cheese, hash brown, tomato, vegan aioli, vegan liquid cheese ad chilli relish.
The Hold, Manly
Rally your friends, pull up a table and order a towering gourmet burger from The Hold. There is a vegan version of every single burger on the menu at this Manly tavern. They’re all packed with the tastiest and juiciest ingredients and held together with a signature green flag. Try smash the Double Smash Patty if you dare!
Huxtaburger is an Australian burger chain that pushes burger boundaries, follows its gut and brings passion and personality to the table. They offer several veg-friendly burgers, serving vegan cheese, chick’n and Buds patties. We can confirm, even carnivores would be impressed.
Mary’s, Circular Quay, Newtown and CBD
Mary’s is an iconic bar, restaurant and live music venue that specialises in burgers, beers and music. Everything on their drool-worthy menu can be made vegan on request but they also have seven dedicated vegan options to try. Go for gold and order Mary’s Burger with a side of Mary’s vegan sauce.
The Hive Bar, Erskineville
It’s all about burgers, beer, vinyl and cocktails at The Hive. This quaint, corner bar in Erskineville has more vegan burgers on its menu than meat. We can’t go past the Peagan Cheeseburger with a pea and edamame patty, but the Southern Fried Tricken Burger is also a winner.
